Safety FAQ

A: Usually the wiring must be secured under the solar panels and/or guided through wire trays or conduits. The exposed wiring can be a danger for people who try to access the roof later, either for cleaning the panels, roof maintenance or any roof activity. This wiring can be trapped under a tool or get caught among people moving around, causing an accident, which is always good to avoid.

A: Installation companies are the ones ultimately responsible for the safety of their workers. There are safety practices for people working at heights (more than 2.5 meters), these practices and code of construction include many special safety equipment that would prevent the worker from falling from your roof and getting severely injured, as well as avoiding heat strokes, or getting any accident due to a poorly-secured object falling or have their fingers trapped between any equipment. In M2(Thailand) our first priority is the safety of our personnel and our customers. We train everyone on the correct use of the safety equipment provided, and let our workers know that their safety is our first priority.

A: Solar systems are designed to be turned on all the time. The equipment will recognize  any unstable situation and will stop the production of energy. Once the situation goes back to normal, the energy production will restart again.

A: There is a very low possibility of a fire starting, mostly in the case of poor installation, such as cables not properly isolated, or connections not being properly crimped, etc. M2(Thailand) has strict preparation and installation guidelines following the Thailand Electric code for solar installation, International Electric Standards and USA NEC (National Electric Code) 2020. According to the NEC 2020 code,  when the temperature of the roof rises above certain levels, the energy production of the solar panels must be interrupted, with absence of energy meassured at 1 ft from the panel. It must also be equipped with an emergency switch for the firemen or roof workers to be able to desactivate the power at the panel level.

A: The Solar panel adds a load of 30Kg per square meter to your roof, which is calculated by our structure engineer, and be authorized by the District Office (อบค). In M2(Thailand), we take special care to use special equipment to always distribute the weight of the installation and our personnel across a wide surface in order to put a minimal amount of pressure to the roof itself.

Investment FAQ

A: Based on Calculations and experience:

For a Residential package, based on 70%on peak and 30%off peak (MEA/PEA tariffs),  a 3KWp system will save you around THB 1,700, a 5KWp system will save THB 2,900, and a 10KWp system will save THB 5,800 per month (year average).

For a Commercial package, based on 100% on peak (MEA/PEA tariffs), a 5KWp system will save THB 3,400, a 10Kwp system will save THB 6,900, a 20KWp system  will save THB 13,900, and a 50KWp system will save THB 34,700 per month (year average).

A: Many customers around the world have reported an increment of up to 15% on the house price in the market when it has a solar system installed. This provides a big advantage for owning a house with low energy bill to pay, especially when the energy prices always tend to increase.

A: Major banks like Kasikorn and UOB have their solar loan plans.

A: Yes, once you have an approved permit from ERC and PEA/MEA, the excess can be acquired by the energy company at THB 2.2 per Unit (KWh).

A: Thailand provides the greatest deal, for every Kwh generated in excess during your day production time (sun hours), at night you can consume back also one Kwh (one to one), this makes virtually possible to reduce the cost to zero, but in reality, there is some minimum fee required to mantain the electric public grid. Another great incenctive from Thailand government is that after your permit is approved, the government could actually buy your excess production at end of the month at 2.2THB/Kwh.

A: The moment an M2(Thailand) energy advisor presents you with our proposal, they will explain to you how many years it will take to fully pay your investment (part of the proposal). Depending on the package selected, customers typically see a full return on their investment in 5-12 years.

A: Our M2 (Thailand) energy advisors will be pleased to inform you about our current and updated promotions, especially the ones that fit to your particular needs. Give us a call and schedule a free visit.

A: The government of Thailand has an ambitious  intention to sharply increase the amount of unconventional energy produced by home/business owners. Now is the best time, give us a call and schedule a free visit with one of our energy advisors.

A: As per M2(Thailand) standard, you will be able to monitor the energy production in real time, from your mobile, and can also add the option to monitor the house/business energy consumption, making it easier to make decisions regarding your energy consumption, especially if your consumption is increasing unexplainably.

A: Because 20 years ago the solar energy cost was many times more expensive than it is nowadays. People have kept that concept in mind and still think that it is not affordable.

A: Yes, the hot weather season is when we have the best solar energy production, which means your solar energy can supply the increased energy consumption of your air conditioning.

Permits FAQ

A: 1. PEA/MEA (Energy Provider Company): Customers can file for it themselves or through a power of attorney. In order to acquire the necessary paperwork for the permit, M2 (Thailand) is willing to supply all needed documents. The permit can be started as soon as the design is complete and the District Office approves the addition of the solar panels at the roof or side area of the home/business.
2. ERC (Energy Regulatory Commission): Can be done with a power of attorney, in representation of the owner. The solar energy installation company can represent the owner on this permit request, a process which can be started in parallel with the energy company permit.
3. District Office (อบต): To authorize the additional construction on your home/business, the solar power installation company can help with the paperwork for this permit.

A: – Request form for connection of energy system.
– Power of attorney, in case the owner would not be able to attend the meeting with the authority.
– National ID card (signed photocopy)
– House registration (signed photocopy)
– Title of the land or deed.
– Past 6 electricity bills

A: – Notification form for operation as energy generator.
– Power of attorney in case the owner would not be able to attend the meetings with the authority.
– National ID card (1 signed photocopy)

A: Several important points to have in mind when choosing the installation service provider:

  1. How important to them is the safety of their employees, and would they potentially put anyone in danger during the installation? Make sure they follow standards of working in high altitudes [safety lifelines, harness, properly maintained climbing equipment, protection from falling objects, heat stroke, hand pinching, safety shoes] and the more importantly, their personnel have to be trained on the correct use of this equipment. You don’t want to have an accident in YOUR house or business.
  2. Make sure the company has procedures for verifying the performance of every piece of equipment, before coming to install, in this way you won’t have any surprises.
  3. When choosing the installer, test their help line, make sure it works and has the proper answers to your questions and needs.
  4. Make sure that when they plan to climb to your roof, they use the correct equipment to avoid stepping on your roof during the installation. Remember that sometimes the weight of one person on a single point is more than 50Kg, and if your roof is not new, it may be damaged or weakened, which could cause you problems in the future.
  5. Ask them to show you the equipment they use for maintenance of the solar panels. They are supposed to come and clean them at least every 6 months.
  6. Make sure they don’t improvise. Ask them to show you the installation and commissioning checklists with clear steps, so you can verify that they follow the proper procedure during the installation process.

A: The wiring in general should be installed on wiring hangers under the Solar Panels, or in cable trays (wire guides), preventing any accident from happening and making sure that the wiring can’t be damaged, which can cause bad insulation and loss of energy in the future.

A: Not all height differences in curved roofs can be solved, but accurate hooks can largely help with these differences.

A: Yes, definitelly, the solar energy system can be increased as your needs increase, and you can even use different installation companies. You do not need to stick to a single provider.

A: Usually the systems that M2 Thailand installs, have an internet-connected monitoring system, with which you can see the energy output of your solar energy system in real time.

A: We offer two options:, one based on your energy bill, and the other is based on the electric appliances you have at home. M2(Thailand) will be pleased to calculate your energy needs for you, for FREE, give us a call and we will help you find out.

A: We take special care of our customer’s roofs, using special equipment during the entire installation so that your roof will not receive the weight of a person or equipment in a single point. Instead, it will be distributed across a large area, this quarantees  maximum care during installation. Our warranty covers any problem on the solar installation area of your roof.

A: Yes, as per manufacturing general specs, all the PV panels lose a very small amount of energy transfer capacity over time (around 0.3% per year). M2(Thailand) adds this amount on your return calculation section of our proposal. You will see clearly what is the amount, in your particular case. Despite this small loss, investing in solar is very profitable in long term (most of the early installations 30 and 40 years ago are still generating power).

A: During the inspection visit, our M2(Thailand) inspection team will let you know if your roof is in a critical state, and will advise you whether to install after the roof change, or in any open area of your home/business, like an additional shadow, carport, etc.

A: M2(Thailand) monitors our customers’ systems performance every day in real-time. Usually you will receive a call from our personnel as soon as there is any unusual behavior in your system. As soon as it occurs, if you didn’t receive the call, you can call us or contact us in LINE or FB chat. We will be pleased to answer your needs immediately.

A: As per Thailand renewable energy code, if the solar system is tied to the grid (on-grid system), when the power on the grid goes down, the solar system has to stop generating power, to avoid any accident to the personnel who comes to fix the grid on the energy poles (on the street). If your system is not tied to the grid (Off-grid system), in case of a grid interruption or blackout, your solar system will continue generating power without any interruption.

A: Yes, they still produce power, but in a reduced proportion according how much sun energy reaches the panels.

A: If you plan to move and sell the house, having solar energy installed would increase the market value of your house at least 15%, so we strongly recommend installing a solar system at any time. If you plan to move, we M2(Thailand) will be happy to do our free survey at your new place and give you our advice on how to proceed, so that you can keep having a solar power system.

A: Yes, Thailand has an excellent irradiation profile (Thailand Solar power potential map), despite having long rainy seasons, the average annual solar power potential is very high.

A: Although many service claim that the rain is enough for cleaning the panels, scientific studies have shown that cleaning the surface every 6 months is a good practice. After cleaning the surface of the panel, the amount of power generated increases around 3%. M2(Thailand) provides this service every 6 months along with the installation warranty established in every package, and can be extended every year after that.

A: M2(Thailand) solar advisors are able to calculate your anual energy production with high accuracy based on the irradiation map of your location, knowing the energy loss in the system, and based on practical observation of our customer’s system performance. If you have time, you can visit our Knowledge section, this and other questions are explained there.

A: Depending on the quality of the equipment package of choice, the solar energy system would have a performance warranty from 10 years to 25 years. However, several studies and real-life experience have shown that most of the systems installed 30 or 40 years ago, are still producing energy, the key is to have regular cleaning and maintenance visits every 6 months.

A: Based on research and experience, solar systems installed on a flat surface or facing West, still have a very good energy output. Give us a call, and M2(Thailand) energy advisors will visit you for free and present the most efficient alternative for you.

A: Based on our experience, following our strict standards, and depending on the options chosen by the customer, for a 5 Kwh system, the installation process can take from 3 to 5 days.

A: An energy meter which measures the energy coming from the public grid to your home/business. It also measures the energy going from your home/business to the public grid, giving the net consumption as a result of a simple addition and substraction.

A: If the shadows over the panels are affecting the production of your system, M2(Thailand) will notify you immediately and ask for a visit to your home/business in order to propose alternatives for ensuring your energy production output until it  goes back to normal. If you suspect  your solar energy output will be affected, you can give us a call, and we will promptly attend your call and visit you to analyze the foreseen situation.

A: Please give us a call, we will be glad to help with a suggestion and alternative to solve your problem.

A: Yes, for this situation we can offer corrosion-resistant equipment that is not going to be corroded over time. If the equipment has certifications for IEC 61701, it should stand the salt mist, but it may require a frequent cleaning of the salt sediment.
